Antaeus – Cut Your Flesh And Worship Satan – CD Review

Feel like some vicious, raw as a bare nerve Black Metal with a Thrash Metal relentlessness? Here’s the fix. The French Black Metal named Antaeus has unleashed a ravenous fury in their 2001 debut, titled “Cut Your Flesh And Worship Satan” [Necropolis Records]. It’s a graceless, tenebrous work of utter, furious savagery. And it’s a stunning and cool opus.

Frenetic tempos are the soul of the Antaeus‘ sound. Raw, Black Metal shrieks are cast over speedy, primal rhythms and wild, hell tempered guitars. Synergy makes for a unity of effect that is a primordial brimstone of chaotic beauty and sharpened musical mayhem.

The most fiery cuts include “Nihil Khaos,” “Bleeding Blasphemy,” “Those With No Eyes,” and the absolutely savage “Inner War” which is my favorite. It is a maddening aesthetic, and Antaeus captures it perfectly. There is a wicked charm to their art that I enjoy very much.

In conclusion, this is truly savage Black Metal not made for the faint of heart. But it was created for the black of heart. Stay savage. Farewell.

Related Bands: Vlad Tepes, Thornspawn, Emperor, Siebenburgen, Thy Primordial, Borknagar, Old Man’s Child, Samael, Mystic Circle, December Wolves, Acheron, Order From Chaos, Nokturnal Mortum, Dissection, etc.

Keep the faith, and the AGGRESSION. War.
