This is one incredible band. Dead To Fall has a ferocious sound that fuses blunt force elements of Metalcore, Swedish Style Death Metal, and Brutal Deathrock Metal. The Chicago group's 2002 opus, “Everything I Touch Falls To Pieces” [Victory Records], is one of the best of the year.
Centered around a bombastic core of Metalcore ferocity, the edges are sharpened to wicked jags with intricate Swedish Death guitar playing and caustic vocal rampages. Dead To Fall uses a vocal assault that switches from guttural roars to powerful, shrill growls. The rhythms are tight, intense, and catchy…the hooks here could rip stone to pieces.
Dead To Fall has a visceral charm that makes every song monumental. The best cuts include “Graven Image,” “The Eternal Gates Of Hell,” the cataclysmic beauty and angst of “Memory,” “Like A Bullet,” and my favorite one, “Tu Se Morta.” It's a bleakly glorious wonder.
Overall, Dead To Fall has a triumph of hostile beauty in “Everything I Touch Falls To Pieces.” This is one that extinguishes the pale stars with its shining chaos. Stay savage. Farewell.
