Every time I think that my freelance career in music journalism has peaked, something happens that proves me wrong. This time, it came to me in the form of a band called HIM, along with a charismatic frontman by the name of Ville Valo who is, by no means, like anyone else I’ve ever heard or seen.
It was more than an honor to interview Ville, it was a surreal experience. He is not only one of the sexiest men in the world, but perhaps even far more charming than one might expect.
The band were in the U.S. to shoot the latest of Bam-directed music videos, set to appear in an upcoming DVD collective. Ville and I spoke after he’d already taken his morning shower, while he sat comfortably in his New York hotel room, enjoying a cup of coffee and a cigarette, waiting for his ride to the airport for his return flight to his home base in breathtaking Helsinki, Finland.
I was a complete mess, and I found it impossible to not giggle maniacally at certain points. You’ll have to forgive me if I end up sounding like a 15 year-old school girl with a rockstar crush during this interview. Alas, that is the type of power this willowy, green-eyed, rock star has over oh so many of us. He can’t help that he is impossibly hot, writes intensely beautiful music, and fronts an incredible band. And get this, he sings his ass off, too.
