Warhorse – As Heaven Turns To Ash – CD Review

From the darkened abysm where all Doom lies is born an abyssal dream of utter apocalyptic melancholy.  The band is Warhorse, and the CD is “As Heaven Turns To Ash” [Southern Lord Records].  The Warhorse sound is an obliterating form of Psychedelic Doomdeath Metal with a massive, sludgy quality as heavy as the Hand Of Doom itself.

Ultra grinding portions of bass and guitar are crowned with grim Death growl vocals, and then juxtaposed against quieter, melodic instrumentals.  These serene moments are often used as gargantuan intros, inducing a bleak disphoria.

The best cuts include “And The Angels Begin To Weep,” the brutal oppression of “Doom's Bride,” “Black Acid Prophecy,” and “Every Flower Dies No Matter The Thorns (Wither).”  This is brutality at its bleakest.  Really good…

In summary, this is totally crushing Psychedelic Doomdeath Metal for the end of the world.  So get Doomed.  Stay savage.  Farewell.

Related Bands: Evoken, Paradise Lost, Anathema, Sorrow, My Dying Bride, etc.

Keep the faith, and the AGGRESSION. War.
