“Gonna leave my mark, like a brand new scar,” states the opening cut, “New Scar (Won't Be Like You),” from Reach 454’s killer debut. And that it surely does—like a finely tuned pile-driver. This self-titled 2003 opus, out on Lava/Atlantic Records, is as addictive as it is aggressive.
Taking a polished Powercore Metal style, they incorporate smooth, yelled vocals and some trippy elements into this maelstrom. The guitars and rhythms are chunky, with tons and tons of hook. This is beautiful aggression.
The best of these snarling monsters includes habit-forming roar of “New Scar (Won't Be Like You),” the whacked-out “Come Apart” (featuring Cody of Papa Roach), “Until The Day I Die,” “California,” and “Last Time.” Reach 454 does it with a roaring glory.
In summary, this is an exceptional debut by a great new band. Make yourself a brand new scar. Stay savage. Farewell.
