Devo. Oingo Boingo. The Bay City Rollers. Atari Teenage Riot. The Partridge Family. What do all of these bands have in common? Absolutely nothing, unless you’re trying to tell someone what Mindless Self Indulgence sounds like. They sound like a psychotic blend of all of the above bands, only hopped up on crystal meth. Oh, and don’t forget that this skinny, punk ass, white boy can also rap, even if he does do it at 78 rpm.
The demo I reviewed includes 3 hyperactive songs from their CD “Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy” (Elektra), and 3 songs from and independent release they put our called “Tight” (Uppity Cracker Records). The band seems to refer to their music as “Industrial Jungle Pussy Punk”. With this I must agree, although most would have to actually hear it, to understand why it makes sense.
Take for instance, the track entitled “Bitches” with input by none other than Siouxsie Sioux (Siouxsie and the Banshees). A song that squeals “Bitches love me ’cause they know that I can fuck!” in that Danny Elfman (but way higher) voice is almost fun to listen to. It made me kind of giggle.
So, I guess if you’re feeling somewhat bizarre, check this out. It would truly be the perfect party music if you’re throwing an all-night cokefest with Jolt cocktails.
