After the death of Dave Williams, many wondered if Drowning Pool could survive the loss. But they gathered greatly, and returned in 2004 with the epic “Desensitized” [Wind-Up Music]. And their sound is sharper than ever.
Drowning Pool takes a raw intensity and welds it into pure aggression. The effect is a Powercore/Aggro Metal hybrid that is highly melodic…and visceral. Clean, vocal howls intermingle with caustic grunts and growls. These vocal bursts burn through feral blast-beats, twisting rhythms, and sledgehammer guitar roar.
Now their darker, melodious edge shines a little more brilliantly. The most powerful of these vicious wonders are the tenebrous “Love And War,” the ferocious “Step Up,” “Nothingness,” the intense “Cast Me Aside,” and “Forget.” Drowning Pool has a harsh, raging glory.
In summary, this is one of the best albums of 2004. So crank-up the Drowning Pool, and “you’re gonna get knocked down.” Stay savage. Farewell.
