Daredevil – Movie Soundtrack

The new “Daredevil” movie may not be your thing, but for the Metal/Hard Rock fan the soundtrack is a solid collection with few missteps. The “Daredevil” Soundtrack [Wind-Up Records] features many of the current big name acts (e.g. Fuel, Nickleback, Saliva, Rob Zombie, Hoobastank, Chevelle, and The Calling) and up-and-comers like 12 Stones, Evanescence, Boysetsfire, Endo, Finger Eleven, Paloalto, etc.

There are several great cuts, and many good ones here as well. The song “The Man Without Fear” by Drowning Pool & Rob Zombie is a Thrashcore wrecker–the best thing Zombie has done in years. Fuel's “Won't Back Down” is their hardest-edged song yet, but without killing their natural aesthetic.

12 Stones' melodic rocker “Let Go” has a sublime, Bluesy feel. The Seether cut, “Hang On,” is Grungy and emotionally wrenching. “Until You're Refreshed” by Chevelle is some exceptional Melodic Hardcore.

The cuts by Nickleback, Saliva, and The Calling are stand-out Melodic Hard Rock songs–catchy, emotional, and enough swagger to make them good without overwhelming them. The Paloalto track, “Fade Out/In,” is a good Alternative/Hard Rock number as well.

Autopilot Off and Revis provide some good Punk Rock meandering with “Raise Your Rifles,” and “Caught In The Rain” respectively. And Hoobastank's “Right Before Your Eyes” is a solid, mellow Melodic/Alternative Thrash cut.

But the best ones have a real range of sound. Evanescence really shines. Their two Gothic Metal cuts, “Bring Me To Life” and “My Immortal,” are dark, powerful, and beautiful. Boysetsfire's cut, “High Wire Escape Artist,” combines Metalcore and Discordant Hardcore into an epic, addictive bludgeoning session. (They are simply killer.)

The other two best cuts are from Endo, and Finger Eleven. The Aggro Metal assault from Endo, called “Simple Lies,” is a bit softer for them…but still very good. The Dark Moodcore stomp of Finger Eleven on “Sad Exchange” is, as always, killer.

Other than a few dud tracks (i.e. Moby), this is a solid collection of tunes well worth the dare. Stay savage. Farewell.

Keep the faith, and the AGGRESSION. War.
